Canutesford,
now Knutsford, is rich in old-English history. Many travellers have added to the town's
story, from the Danish king Canute - hence the town's name - who forded the
river Lily in 1016, to Prince Rupert in the Civil War of 1651, and General
"blood and guts" Patton in 1943.
Elizabeth Gaskell, a contemporary of novelist Charles Dickens, lived in the
town, charmingly portrayed in her famous novel, Cranford.
Edward "Highwayman" Higgins, a Knutsford gentleman by day and a
notorious robber by night is another well known character from Knutsford as is
Trumpet Major Smith who sounded the famous "charge" into the valley of
death at Balaclava.
Explore the Towns, cobbled streets and
courtyards. From "Top Street" to "Bottom
Street", purveyors of wines, cheese and herbs loiter among antique shops,
lurking in quiet Olde English charter'd ginnels. Coffee houses nestle between
Inns and small boutique shops, creating a myriad of contrasts and providing a choice to satisfy all.
Knutsford has withstood the pressures of modern development, retaining the quiet
Highway-Man menace, reflecting the special character and charisma of its central area. It is not surprising
that the town was rightly designated the first Conservation Area in Cheshire.
Our property
at 92 Mobberley Road is a mid terrace building,
built at the turn of the century to house one of the Town's newly arrived
business men, and his family. Full of character and warmth, this property
is ideal for professionals working temporarily in the area, families
needing easy access to good schooling, or young couples needing a quiet place to
entertain but within walking distance of the Town centre. The
property is situated just 5 minutes walk from both Knutsford Town centre and the railway
station and only 25 minutes drive from Manchester Airport, 5 minutes from the M6
and 10 minutes from the M56.
